The University of Virginia Medical Informatics/Systems Engineering Training (MINDSET) Program is designed to train researchers who are well-grounded in Systems Engineering methodologies as applied to healthcare and biological systems. This includes our NLM T15 Training program trainees as well as students funded by other sources.
Example Research TopicsStudents focus their Systems Engineering training in one of five areas of departmental expertise:
Research projects apply techniques and tools from these areas to problems related to healthcare, under the collaborative guidance of both systems engineering and either medical informatics, healthcare, or biological systems mentors. A trainee's primary mentor is a faculty member in the Department of Systems and Information Engineering.
